Megapress connectors can be used for pressing thick-walled steel pipes from 3/8 to 2 inches in seconds. This now also applies to steel pipes with external diameters of 44.5 and 57.0 mm. These new sizes round off Viega's Megapress range. Thanks to the cold press technology, the connectors allow for installation without welding and threading.
In many heating systems, steel pipes with small external diameters have been used for reasons of economy. According to DIN EN 10216-1 / DIN EN 10217-1, these include the external diameters 44.5 and 57.0 mm. In many cases where boilers are replaced, this has meant that connections with heat distribution units often entailed welding or threading. With the aid of the new adapters with external threads (1 and 1¼ inches) and reducing sleeves for pipes of 1½ or 2 inches, connections can now be made using Viega's fast and safe press technology. This makes for permanently leak-tight and force-fit connections, thanks to special sealing elements made of EPDM in combination with cutting rings for the rough surfaces of black, galvanised, painted or epoxy-resin-coated steel piping.
No extra costs for tools
The new press connectors in the Megapress range are designed to withstand operating temperatures up to 110 °C and a maximum operating pressure of 16 bar. They will shortly receive TÜV approval and approval for shipbuilding from DNV/GL and LR. As is normal for Viega connectors, the Megapress connectors include SC-Contur, the feature that ensures forced leakage in the unpressed state. This means that unpressed connections automatically show up as being unsealed in leakage tests. After pressing, the pipe connections are permanently leak-tight.
The connectors are manufactured using the known Megapress press rings (despite the special boiler pipe dimensions). Therefore, no extra tool costs are involved.
Up to 60% time saving
With Megapress, press connecting technology for thick-walled steel piping is significantly more economical than other technologies. Depending on the nominal diameter of the connection, the connectors can be pressed up to 60 percent more quickly. The workflow is as easy as with any other Viega press system: Cut the pipe to length, mark the insertion depth, attach the connector and press it.
The Megapress range
With the Megapress piping system, Viega is the first manufacturer to extend the advantages of rapid pressing technology to the installation of thick-walled steel pipes. The size range from 3/8 to 2 inches includes all the essential installation components that are needed for connecting radiators and steel pipe installations in heating and cooling plants and industrial applications such as those involving compressed air.
